Rising Star Bellemeur To Join Payne In Promoting Fireice At NHRA Drag Races
XXI - 5/16/2013
FireIce, the industry's most efficient fire gel for firefighters, has partnered with Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean Bellemeur beginning with this weekend's NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
Bellemeur, 31, will now drive a FireIce-branded Chevrolet Camaro after completing an agreement between Bellemeur Motorsports and GelTech Solutions (OTBQB: GLTC), the parent company of FireIce.
Sean Bellemeur prepares for a run.
"The fact that representatives from FireIce approached my dad and I about joining forces was a real compliment," Bellemeur said. "It was nice to see that our team and our program is attractive and that someone like Michael Cordani (GelTech CEO) and FireIce want to become partners. That was flattering.
"Now that we've spent some time together, it really feels like the sky is the limit. We've started off very well, and I'm excited. We know the performance of the car will increase because of the resources now available to us."
Cordani and FireIce have been active in the Top Alcohol Funny Car class the last five seasons, partnering with multi-time champion Jay Payne in 2008. The sponsorship of Bellemeur will increase FireIce's presence in NHRA and beyond.
"Sean is a great young driver and we're thrilled to join forces with him," Cordani said. "We've been really impressed with what he and his dad, Gregg, have done in Alcohol Funny Car, and we think Sean has the potential to win a lot of races and championships. They're a great team, just like our group at FireIce. We look forward to many successful seasons together."
Gregg Bellemeur, a veteran NHRA racer, serves as his son's crew chief. Sean Bellemeur is the 2007 Division 7 champion and the Good Guys Vintage Racing Association champion in 2001 and 2002.
He'll get his first start in the FireIce Camaro at Heartland Park, a track he'll see for the initial time this weekend.
"We've had a lot of strong showings this year but the statistics doesn't necessarily show what has actually transpired within our team," Sean said. "The opportunity to go out on a really neat track like Topeka and showcase what we're capable of with the addition of FireIce is exciting and the timing is perfect for us."
Like Payne, Bellemeur and the team will support the Leary Firefighters Foundation (www.learyfirefighters.org), Angel Faces (www.angelfacesretreat.org) and the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (www.firehero.org) - three of the top charities FireIce supports.
