JUPITER, Fla., July 20, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- GelTech Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB:GLTC) today announced that its revolutionary fire suppressant FireIce was used to assist 20 Long Island Fire Departments in a massive mulch fire at a Long Island composting facility on Monday, July 12, 2010.
Making it difficult for the firefighters was a lack of fire hydrants in the immediate area. Tanker trucks with water had to be brought in to help supply water to fight the fire. The fire burned approximately 200' by 400' area of compost materials. The materials included, logs, tree stumps and tree limbs that were piled more than 50 feet tall. At one point the flames from the burning pile shot more than 50 feet above the pile into the sky.
A total of 20 fire departments, 150 firefighters and 3 EMS agencies were called to the scene.
Dan Sicilian, Suffolk County Fire Coordinator, stated, "They started flowing FireIce through the water supply and within 10 minutes the area of operation assigned to the 'tower ladder' pumper was done". He continued, "As a Safety Officer there are things I look at, not just suppression. By using FireIce we cut down total operations by a good 6 hours. We were able to save a great deal of time, effort and overtime costs by using FireIce".
